15% rise in malware-infected computers detected
2009-10-01
There has been a 15 per cent rise in the overall number of malware-infected computers in September compared to August, according to PandaLabs data.
Results were gathered from users who scanned and disinfected their computers with the Panda ActiveScan online antivirus and revealed that the average infection ratio went up to 59 per cent, the highest rate this year.
"There is a false sense of security, as users perceive there to be no real danger at the moment. When their computers get infected, they rarely notice any symptoms," said Luis Corrons, technical director of PandaLabs.
According to the organisation's study showed that US computers are infected by the most dangerous malware strains, while the country is ranked ninth when it comes to infection rates.
In related news, the most recent of Symantec's MessageLabs Intelligence monthly report revealed that 12.3 per cent of all web-based malware blocked was new in September.
