30% of workers sending confidential data
2010-01-12
Nearly a third (30 per cent) of employees send confidential and/or sensitive data as a normal email attachment or unsecured in the body of an message, a study has indicated.
This is despite the fact that 98 per cent of workers believe it is essential to protect confidential information from problems such as data breach incidents, according to the poll from InvisiViewmedia.com.
Other figures from the poll revealed that 23 per cent of respondents convert their documents into PDF format before emailing and 45 per cent use the recorded delivery postal service.
"Considering how clued-up most businesses are today when it comes to the very real threat of data interception, it is quite alarming to discover quite a complacent attitude in terms of securing confidential information," commented Jan Gunner, director at InvisiViewmedia.com.
This year will see more successes from law enforcement agencies in their fight against cybercriminals, according to McAfee's 2010 Threat Predictions report.
Perhaps employees should look to protect themselves to join the fight against cybercrime.
