Business espionage 'a reality'

2009-08-05

Business espionage is real and should be taken into consideration by every organisation when it comes to security planning, it has been claimed.

Securing the inside network is not enough, according to a report from IDC, as data travelling from one site to another can be intercepted.

This security gap needs addressing, IDC asserted, possibly to prevent data breach occurrences in the future.

In industries such as the banking and government sectors, IDC continued, data is particularly sensitive and if it falls into the wrong hands then the consequences could be catastrophic.

The organisation asserted that shifting information quickly and reliably is now a high priority for businesses and the amount of data being sent over the networks is getting increasingly bigger.

In recent news, the European Commission recently updated the GSM Directive of 1987.

The changes mean that the 900 MHz frequency band can now be used to provide quicker, pan-European services such as mobile internet, which may suggest that more data will be going across networks.
