'Busy 2009' for Mac security and malware

2010-02-01

Last year was another busy one for Mac system security and malware, according to a new report, as new threats targeted at Mac computers.

The report from Intego, entitled The Year in Mac Security 2009, also noted a significant number of Mac OS X vulnerabilities were exposed.

Intego pointed to IBM's X-Force 2008 Trend and Risk Report, which showed that Apple was at the top of the league table for security vulnerabilities.

There were some security issues with the iPhone last year as well, with the iPhone OS 3.0, launched in June, having over 40 security fixes, according to the company.

Intego also noted that a number of hacking contests took place in 2009, with one seeing security researcher Charlie Miller hacking a Mac in ten seconds.

Websense Security Labs ThreatSeeker Network, meanwhile, has recently found that search terms associated with the Apple Tablet announcement have become a target for blackhat SEO (search engine optimisation) poisoning attacks.
