Cloud computing and virtualisation 'give cybercriminals more room for activity'
2009-12-10
Cloud computing and virtualisation provide additional spaces for cybercriminals to take advantage of, it has been claimed.
While there may be cost benefits associated with them, they move servers outside the traditional security perimeter, according to the Trend Micro 2010 Future Threat Report.
The fact that cloud computing and virtualisation are becoming more popular among businesses will most likely catch the eye of cybercriminals looking to make some money, according to Trend Micro.
Cybercriminals will look to manipulate the connection to the cloud or attack the data centre and cloud itself, the company predicted.
The report also suggested that malware is changing shape every few hours, while bots cannot be stopped anymore and will be around forever.
In related news, Symantec 's MessageLabs Intelligence 2009 Security Report indicated that the most worrying security threat this year has been the Conficker/Downadup worm.
This allows creators to remotely install software on infected machines.
