Cloud security model 'needs rethinking'
2010-02-16
Efforts need to be made to secure virtualisation, multi-tenancy storage area networks and other engines that power cloud computing, it has been suggested.
Speaking at the Westminster eForum Keynote Seminar: Cloud Computing, Rik Ferguson, senior security advisor at Trend Micro, said consumers of cloud and security providers need to rethink the security model.
"I think this is probably the biggest challenge," he added.
Mr Ferguson explained that cloud computing security must be "sticky" as "you won't necessarily know at any given point in time where the system is or where the data is".
The Westminster eForum Keynote Seminar: Cloud Computing was held at Local Government House in London on February 10th.
It explored the prospects for cloud computing in the UK as well as its reliability, security and stability.
In addition, attendees talked about whether the technology is ready for the mainstream and the business case for cloud computing, in terms of its costs, benefits and challenges.
