Companies 'should educate staff' about IT intrusions

2010-03-15

Businesses must educate their employees about the threat of IT intrusions in order to protect against security breaches, it has been suggested.

The latest Symantec State of Enterprise Security report, which was released last month, suggested that 75 per cent of organisations experienced cyber attacks in the past year.

Luis Corrons, technical director at Panda Security, explained that companies can guard against increasingly prolific hackers by keeping their staff aware of the latest threats.

He explained that one Japanese firm conducted a test involving sending its employees a fake attack to underline the benefits of adopting this approach.

Mr Corrons said: "They talked to all the people, saying, 'OK, this has been a test: we said that, you said this; that's what you'll do in the future.'

"They repeated [the test] about six months later and the result was that only ten per cent of the people that clicked on the file and followed the instructions did the same the second time."

Panda Security develops a range of technologies, products and services in order to provide computer users with the best possible protection from cyber attacks.
