Concerns showed over cloud computing security

2009-08-27

IT professionals have their concerns over cloud computing security, research has indicated, perhaps suggesting they are anxious about data breach incidents affecting the technology.

A CIO.com poll of 240 IT professionals, entitled the CIO On-Demand Services Survey, showed that 51 per cent of respondents are worried about cloud security, in comparison to the 45 per cent who had the same opinion in a separate study from last year.

CIO.com asserted that cloud-based providers' marketing teams should now improve their messages and explain to IT leaders why cloud services can benefit businesses.

Other data from the poll showed that the number of IT pros concerned about losing control over their data increased from 26 per cent last year to 37 per cent in 2009.

The July 2009 CIO Technology Priorities Survey, meanwhile, revealed that 60 per cent of around 800 IT buyers said cloud computing was either on their radars or they were actively researching it.

A recent article for the Register by Freeform Dynamics' Jon Collins noted that there are a variety of sub-categories that have come about in cloud computing.

These include Software-as-a-Service and Infrastructure-as-a-Service.
