Cybercriminals 'targeting users interested in Google Wave'
2009-10-14
Email scams are being leveraged by cybercriminals to target those with an interest in Google Wave, it has been reported.
Security analyst Rik Ferguson first noticed the scam on Twitter, he told IT Pro, and users who clicked a link were directed to a website promising a Google Wave invite within the hour if they handed over their username and email address for the social networking site.
Mr Ferguson said that bodies or people who were not in a position to offer the Google Wave invite should not be expected by users to be able to provide it.
"Whether it's Google Wave, or something else that you really want, don't be taken in by false promises because that's really all they are. Google Wave is all about community and collaboration," he added.
Google Wave is an internet-based tool designed to enable real-time communication and a wave can be both a conversation as well as a document.
