Cybercriminals 'to use sophisticated mixes of trojans and money mules'
2009-10-05
Cybercriminals are likely to use increasingly sophisticated combinations of trojans and money mules in the coming years, it has been claimed.
Chief technology officer at Finjan Yuval Ben-Itzhak said that this will be the case because the money is in the banks and cybercriminals will always try to find creative ways to take it.
Mr Ben-Itzhak said that there is always a competition between cybercriminals and banks as both attempt to improve their systems to achieve their goal, which may concern financial institutions seeking to avoid an IT intrusion.
"There is no question that there are going to be improvements on what we've seen [from cybercriminals] over the last few years. I don't see any reason for them to stop," he added.
Mr Ben-Itzhak's comments come after the third annual UK Cybercrime report from Garlik revealed that cybercriminals committed more than 3.6 million illegal acts on the internet during 2008, adapting to the social and economic changes in the country.
