Data breach problem 'prevails in current climate'
2009-09-04
Data breach is a bigger problem for businesses in the current climate, according to an internet security analyst.
Phishing attacks, keyloggers and trojans are prevalent at the moment, claimed Simon Heron of Network Box.
He indicated that even the most complicated password is vulnerable to being stolen.
Mr Heron warned: "You may have a keylogger feeding it straight back to the hacker or you might be a victim of a phishing attack.
"The other thing we've got to look at is the fact that the actual databases of usernames and passwords keep going astray."
Despite this, he conceded that hackers tend to target individual users because they are easier to get information from.
His comments follow research by PC Tools, which indicated that as many as 74 per cent of consumers are not aware of the need for behaviour-based protection.
Meanwhile, four in ten respondents admitted that they only use one or two passwords across all the sites they visit.
