Electronic payment companies join SPVA
2009-07-22
A number of new electronic payment companies have joined the non-profit Secure POS Vendor Alliance (SPVA).
One of these companies is Heartland Payment Systems, which announced earlier this year that it was to initiate an end-to-end encryption system, having reported in January that it suffered a data breach.
Other companies that joined the SPVA were Atos Worldline, Moneris Solutions, Radiant Systems and Witham Laboratories.
They will help with widespread compliance of existing security standards to protect cardholder information and defend merchants as well as acquirers against data breaches.
"Membership in the SPVA reinforces our commitment to advancing security within our industry, enables us to gain first-hand knowledge of current security threats and proactively shape future security guidelines," said Antoine van Diem, general manager technologies and products at Atos Worldline.
A recent survey released by the SPVA revealed that 73 per cent of consumer respondents in the US, France and Great Britain said that more stringent standards are needed before they will trust the security of their credit card transactions.
