European companies 'unsure over sensitive mobile data'

2009-11-30

Many companies in Europe are unsure what sensitive data is being stored by workers on their mobile devices.

Over two-thirds of respondents to a survey of over 100 delegates at Mobile Enterprise 09 hosted by Sybase said they were not completely aware what sensitive information is stored on employees' mobile systems.

Just 15 per cent said they were fully confident they would be legally protected if a worker's mobile device was lost or stolen and corporate data fell into the wrong hands.

"To ensure the enterprise is protected from any mobile threat, intentional or unintentional, organisations need to ensure that mobility policies are as stringent as their wider IT security and management initiatives," commented Dr Martin Karlowitsch, director of field marketing, in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, at Sybase.

In other data security news, managing director of Get Safe Online Tony Neate recently said that companies running a website should look to ensure they are protected from screen scraping.
