Firms advised to be wary of iPhone data breach threat
2009-10-07
Companies' IT departments should look to deal with data security issues surrounding the iPhone, it has been claimed.
In fact, these devices should be treated like any other PC that the firm uses, according to Ralph DeFrangesco, blogging for ITBusinessEdge.
Businesses should be able to test out applications on iPhones so the firm can understand what impact they will have on the device and the information on it, Mr DeFrangesco commented, which may include looking into potential data breach threats.
Data loss prevention software should be used on the phones, limiting which assets the user can access and download, he stated.
If the company owns the iPhone, it will have complete control of what can be accessed, but the application list should be kept at a decent size or business may be impeded, Mr DeFrangesco added.
Tim Weber, business editor for the BBC News website, recently claimed that smartphones are about to change the way people use computers.
