Firms 'overlooking basic security threats'
2010-02-05
Organisations are overlooking basic security threats even though they are progressing with plans to implement new technology to protect their IT systems, research has indicated.
Trustwave's 2010 Global Security Report, which was compiled by SpiderLabs, suggested that the continued presence of attack vectors was the most evident trend of 2009.
The report looked into data from around 1,900 penetration tests and over 200 security incident and compromise investigations throughout last year.
"It's clear that organisations are managing current threats in a very reactive manner, rather than proactively reviewing their entire security posture and developing a plan that secures their data, systems and facilities," commented Robert McCullen, chairman and chief executive officer of Trustwave.
A recent report from the Ponemon Institute, sponsored by PGP Corporation, found that the cost of each lost customer record in the UK was on average £64 in 2009.
This was a rise of seven per cent on the 2008 figure of £60.
