IDC: Western European security appliance factory revenue market declines
2009-09-22
The factory revenue for the western European security appliance sector reached $390 million (£240.83 million) in the second quarter of this year, accounting for a fall of 9.6 per cent in comparison to the same quarter in 2008.
In news that could be of concern to those looking to avoid a data breach, IDC's Western European Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker has shown that shipments also fell by 17.9 per cent.
"For the first time since IDC started tracking security appliances in 2002, the Western European market is showing negative annual growth," commented Romain Fouchereau, research analyst at IDC.
Despite this apparent negativity, Mr Fouchereau stressed that this drop should be put in context as it is largely down to the particularly "healthy results the security appliance market enjoyed in 2008".
A recent Gartner poll indicated that security software and services budgets will increase by four per cent next year, outpacing other IT spending areas in 2010.
