IEEE-SA launches ICSG to fight IT security threats

2009-08-18

The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) has launched the Industry Connections Security Group (ICSG) to help fight the quick increase in IT security threats.

Experience and resources will be brought together in combating the rise of threats, which may interest those firms looking to prevent IT intrusion incidents.

The group will create and promote proposals designed to improve security, with the aim of producing consensus approaches and possibly impetus for new IEEE standards.

"ICSG offers us a unique opportunity to work collectively in a safe-harbour environment to advance innovation, more comprehensively address the security problem and deliver systematic improvements," commented Jeff Green, ICSG chair and senior vice-president of McAfee Avert Labs.

Trend Micro and McAfee are two of the initial firms forming part of ICSG, which is the first activity within the IEEE-SA Industry Connections initiative.

The IEEE-SA currently has 1,300 standards and projects under development, and carries out more than 200 standards ballots every year.
