IT managers 'concerned over cloud security'

2009-07-30

Less than one-fifth (15 per cent) of IT managers are going ahead with cloud computing as many are worried about the security of the service, a poll has revealed.

The Stratus Technologies-ITIC IT Performance Trends Survey of around 300 IT professionals revealed that 83 per cent of the respondents said that data integrity of cloud computing was a big concern.

This may concern those firms looking to prevent a data breach ,with almost two-thirds (63 per cent) of respondents saying they were worried about latency/response times in cloud environments, while 52 per cent said they could not accept downtime for contracted services.

"Putting all our eggs in one basket, a basket that we have limited control over and limited access to, is not high on our list of priorities," commented one responding IT manager at a financial firm with 5,000 desktops and 500 servers.

Gartner recently asserted that cloud computing is starting to move from simply being hyped up and into the mainstream adoption stage.
