IT security predictions for 2010

2010-01-07

The coming year will see IT security focus on areas such as spam, social networking, botnets and data loss, it has been suggested.

IT security experts will have to keep an eye on these trends, explains V3.

Data loss prevention will become a must-have technology, the website states, pointing out that the popularity of social networking leaves many organisations exposed to malware and data loss.

"Firms have to take tough decisions ... about whether to grant access to these sites or put in place other measures," it comments.

Rodney Joffe, senior technologist at NeuStar and director of the Conficker Working Group, adds that 2010 could be the year of data loss prevention on a large scale.

V3 also predicts that spam levels will increase this year, Domain Name Systems Security Extensions technology will come of age and malware writers will turn their attention to intellectual property.
