IT security spending to rise 'because of regulation changes'
2009-09-14
Companies in the UK will spend more on information security this year as changes to regulation on data breach incidents will be enforced, it has been claimed.
Firms will soon have to deal with a fine from the Information Commissioner's Office if they are found to have recklessly breached the Data Protection Act according to Nick Heath, senior reporter at silicon.com.
This will add "more pressure to strengthen security", he commented.
Another reason for firms spending more on data security is the fact that malicious IT intrusions can damage the reputation of a company, he said.
Mr Heath added: "Data breaches remain a problem for both public and private sector organisations.
"It makes sense that companies are spending more on security technologies and training."
A recent survey from Gartner recently indicated that outgoings on security software and services will outpace other IT spending areas in 2010.
According to the firm, security software budgets are expected to grow by around four per cent next year.
