IT threats 'still malicious and complex'

2009-07-22

IT security threats have continued to be malicious and complex, while malware has been on the rise in an alarming manner, it has been claimed.

This highlights "the need for companies to defend all the endpoints attached to the corporate network", according to Frost & Sullivan research analyst Martha Vazquez.

She asserted that managed security service providers (MSSPs) have now recognised that across the sector "the key to managing these threats is to seize and maintain the initiative through an increasingly preventative posture".

Her comments come after Frost & Sullivan reported that the North American managed security services market experienced growth of 12 per cent in 2008.

This was down to a number of factors, according to the organisation, including improved focus on the security market after numerous consolidations, strong business growth in services as well as uptake in important vertical markets.

In related developments, More4 News revealed earlier this month that over 8,000 dangerous viruses have infected NHS computers over the past financial year.
