Indian SMBs 'set to spend $291 million' on data security in 2009

2009-07-30

Indian small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are set to spend $291 million (£177 million) on data security this year, it has been suggested.

Research from Access Markets International (AMI) Partners showed that anti-spyware and anti-spam solutions will record growth rates of close to 26 per cent in Indian SMBs in 2009.

"Data explosion, electronic threats and increased usage of web-based solutions are some of the triggers for the adoption of security solutions by India SMBs," commented Abhilash DB, analyst at AMI-Partners.

The AMI study revealed that SMBs are the most vulnerable segment in terms of data security, with increasing cases of cyber threats and SMBs lacking the skills to deal with such dangers.

Nearly three-quarters (73 per cent) of the overall SMB security expenditure goes on security software, according to AMI.

A Gartner poll recently indicated that global software budgets are set to rise in 2010, with organisations planning to up their software spend by 1.53 per cent on average in that year.
