January malware landscape 'similar to December'
2010-02-08
The malware landscape in January was startlingly similar to that of the previous month, Sunbelt Software has suggested.
As part of its report on the top ten most prevalent malware threats for last month, the top seven detections were the same as December, although they were in a slightly altered order.
Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT comprised almost a quarter (23.15 per cent) of all the malware detected and took top position for the third consecutive month.
In second place was Trojan-Spy.Win32.Zbot.gen, also for the third month in a row, while three new detections made their way onto the list in January.
"I think we can expect to see Trojan horse programs continue to be the top detections for the foreseeable future," commented Michael St Neitzel, Sunbelt Software's vice president of threat research.
Last month, Sunbelt Software said that the December malware landscape was very similar to that of November, as six of the top ten detections were Trojan horse programs in both months.
