Many firms 'not backing up or protecting data'
2009-10-19
Many organisations are failing to back up or protect their data as well as they should, research has indicated.
A report from Buffalo Technology revealed that many UK small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are placing their information in jeopardy, which could leave them open for a data breach.
Over half (52 per cent) of SMEs surveyed admitted to not being concerned about data security on company laptops, while 14 per cent revealed they had never even really considered it.
Meanwhile, business development manager for Iomega Steve Chase said: "There's a definite growth in the amount of data any small business is generating. They are typically looking for ways to be more efficient in the processing of that data."
He explained that SMEs will normally have an in-house IT resource manager, meaning they will have used a traditional server solution.
Now though, there is much talk about virtualisation in terms of getting more out of the infrastructure that is already around, he added.
