Most US organisations 'experience one or more data breach' in last year
2009-07-22
Over four-fifths (85 per cent) of US organisations have experienced one or more data breaches in the past 12 months, according to research.
This is in comparison to last year's figure of 84 per cent, while the number of companies having to deal with more than five data breaches in one year rose to 22 per cent, according to the Ponemon Institute's report named the 2009 Annual Study: US Enterprise Encryption Trends.
In the report which was announced by PGP Corporation, more than three-quarters (78 per cent) of organisations have an encryption strategy in place and are moving towards a steadier approach to data protection, the study showed.
"The focus for 2010 needs to be on applying a strategic approach to data security across the enterprise," asserted Dr Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute.
Earlier this month, the same two organisations worked on the 2009 Annual Study: UK Enterprise Encryption Trends.
It revealed that 70 per cent UK organisations have been impacted by one or more data breach incidents in the last year.
