Mozilla reports data breach
2009-08-06
The third party vendor entrusted to run the backend of the Mozilla Store named GatewayCDI has suffered a security breach.
In developments that may concern those looking to prevent IT intrusion incidents, Mozilla reported the breach on a company blog on August 4th and shut down the Mozilla Store immediately to make sure that no additional users would be affected.
The organisation also moved to urge GatewayCDI, which is now looking into their systems as it tries to work out the cause and extent of the incident, to quickly inform people whose data has been compromised.
A move has also been made to shut down the International Mozilla Store , even though it is run by a separate partner company as a precautionary step.
Mozilla is a public benefit organisation that looks to improve the way that people across the world use the internet.
It is also an open source software project.
