Bruce Rutherford, group head of fraud management solutions and payment system integrity at MasterCard, has been announced as the new chairperson of the PCI Security Standards Council.
Following his appointment, Mr Rutherford said that he was excited to be working with others on developing "the next generation of standards" that can be used to protect sensitive payment data.
He takes over as chairperson from Lib De Veyra, vice president of emerging technologies at JCB International.
The role is rotated annually among each of the five payment card brands that make up the PCI Security Standards Council's executive committee.
"I can think of no one more qualified and capable to unite stakeholders together as we look to the release of the new DSS and PA-DSS later this year," said Mr De Veyra.
The council last month launched a new website, providing resources to secure payment card data in eight different languages.
