SMBs show concern over data breach incidents

While viruses are the biggest security concern for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), spam and data breach incidents are also major issues, it has been suggested.
A report published by Business Insights, named Effective Vendor Strategies for Targeting SMBs: Vendor Positioning and the Future Outlook for the SMB IT Market which has been added onto Research and Markets' offering, found that 70 per cent of respondents to a poll said spam and data breaches were top of their security worries.
The survey also revealed that 59 per cent of SMBs have not installed software to protect end points such as laptops and servers.
According to the report, SMBs are susceptible to attacks by viruses and security hackers as they do not have such protection in place.
Dr Larry Ponemon of the Ponemon Institute recently asserted, on a blog for the company, that chief executive officers and security and privacy executives are not communicating effectively enough over protection priorities.
