SMEs 'need data breach security in place'
2009-08-12
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) need to ensure that they have protection in place for their sensitive business data, particularly this summer, it has been stressed.
In advice that may be useful for those firms looking to avoid a data breach, specialist business insurer Hiscox has said that client information requires protection also.
"Simple tricks such as backing up data and improving IT security can save a business thousands of pounds, while having the necessary insurance cover is vital should the worst happen," commented Sam Franks, small business insurance expert at Hiscox UK.
A survey from the organisation has shown that 48 per cent of respondents believe workers are not as strict about security measures as they would be in their own homes, which may include data security.
Recent research from the Ponemon Institute, commissioned by PGP Corporation, has revealed that 69 per cent of Australian organisations have been struck by at least one data breach incident during the past year.
