Security 'concerns remain a hindrance to cloud adoption'

2009-12-03

Security is a concern that is stopping some from adopting cloud computing, research has indicated.

Indeed, the issues tops the list of reasons why organisations are not interested in the pay-per-use hosting model of virtual servers, according to the latest Enterprise And SMB (small and medium-size businesses) Hardware Survey, North America And Europe, Q3 2009, by Forrester Research.

Almost half (49 per cent) of enterprise respondents to the poll and 51 per cent from SMBs said that security and privacy concerns were the top reason for not using cloud computing.

Tim Harmon, senior analyst for Forrester, commented: "2009 has been a challenging year for hardware and infrastructure technology vendors, but users' 2010 investment plans indicate that this market is set for a rebound next year."

Last month, a Proofpoint and Osterman Research poll of more than 200 IT professionals found that almost half (43 per cent) of respondents said they felt cloud computing was not as secure than managing data in-house.
