Some firms 'not monitoring network data transference'
2009-12-01
Some companies are still unable to monitor when data is moved from their network and on to other systems, a study has revealed.
Close to two-thirds (62 per cent) of UK organisations involved in the research, which was carried out by Dynamic Markets, could monitor when users copied or transferred data from the network onto portable devices or removable media.
The study, commissioned by the security division of Bell Micro, also showed that 92 per cent of businesses said they do not have solutions in place that are 100 per cent effective in making sure lost or stolen portable devices do not present any risk to the firm.
"Increasing sales of netbooks, laptops and other mobile business devices are redefining strategies within companies that need to embrace this new class of super portable device," commented Ed Callacher, divisional director at Bell Micro.
In recent news, more than two-thirds of respondents to a survey of over 100 delegates at Mobile Enterprise 09 hosted by Sybase noted they were not entirely aware what sensitive data is stored on workers' mobile systems.
