Top companies 'can suffer data breach too'
2009-08-13
Even well-organised and top companies can suffer a data breach, it has been claimed.
Andrew Kellett, senior research analyst at the Butler Group, told IT Pro that every organisation is responsible for the protection of all the sensitive data that it chooses to store.
"There is no absolute way to avoid data losses, simply because there are so many vulnerability points and so much sensitive data that needs to be protected," said Mr Kellett.
Top levels of an organisation need to consider malicious activity as well as "unacceptable but non-malicious misuse" and unintentional data loss.
David Neal, writing for IT Pro, asserted that while there may not be one single answer to protect against a data breach incident, there are measures that can be taken, which could include heading to an outside company for IT security solutions.
Specialist business insurer Hiscox recently asserted that small and medium-sized enterprises need to have sensitive data protection in place.
