Twitter hit by a multitude of attacks
2009-08-10
Computer investigations have found that Twitter has not yet completely recovered from denial of service attacks which hit the popular website.
Biz Stone, co-founder of the micro-blogging phenomenon, has written on a blog posting that Twitter has had to contend with a "variety of attacks" which have continued to "change in nature and intensity".
The site came under attack on August 6th, however Mr Stone was eager to reassure users there has been no data breach and no personal information has been "compromised" as a result of the attacks.
Mr Stone wrote: "The ongoing, massively coordinated attacks on Twitter this week appear to have been geopolitical in motivation. However, we don't feel it's appropriate to engage in speculative discussion about these motivations."
Twitter was recently subjected to a data breach after a hacker stole the password for an employee's email account and used it to steal confidential documents.
Going by the name "Hacker Croll", the cybercriminal sent hundreds of company documents to TechCrunch and a French blog called Korben.
