Windows 7 users 'should get latest security updates'

2009-12-21

Windows 7 users have been advised to make their systems secure with the latest updates as hackers will look to take advantage of any vulnerabilities quickly.

Tom Royal, deputy editor at fortnightly home computing magazine Computeractive, said it is essential people get the most recent updates.

"No software or operating system is perfect and there are loads of people out there looking to exploit any possible weakness that's discovered," he explained.

Hackers also take advantage of security flaws in other computer programs, so all software should be kept up to date as well, Mr Royal commented.

Some security tools can now be used to check for software vulnerabilities as well as virus attacks, he added.

His comments come after Panda Security asserted that Windows 7 will have a big impact on malware development.

According to the company, hackers will be preparing malware to attack the new operating system and there will be a big shift in criminal activity to the platform over the next two years.
